Where a global movement began
On February 23, 1905, Paul Harris and three other Chicago business people gathered for the meeting that became the beginning of Rotary. The name reflected the early practice of meeting at members’ workplaces.
Rotary/One continues that connection between fellowship and service in its home city. Its activities include community projects, youth opportunities and international cooperation.
Our approach to service
Members contribute through their time, professional experience and participation. Community work addresses education, literacy and disease prevention; youth activities connect learning with leadership and opportunity.
An inclusive club
The club welcomes different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Service and friendship provide common ground.
Club and Foundation
Rotary Club of Chicago manages club membership and activities. The ROTARY/One Foundation, Inc. supports the club’s service mission through voluntary contributions. Membership dues and Foundation gifts are different payments to different recipients.
